About EWRI

The Environmental & Water Resources Institute (EWRI) is a civil engineering specialty institute of the American Society of Civil Engineers that focuses on environmental and water-related issues. National EWRI was formed in 1999 with a vision to “advance water resources and environmental solutions to achieve a sustainable future”.

The East Central Branch completed the requirements to form a local EWRI Chapter in 2008. The local EWRI Chapter provides and delivers an active technical development program to its members and the engineering community in Central Florida through technical luncheons, an annual seminar, training in areas of special interest, and project tours. The local EWRI chapter also sponsors several community service events each year and provides scholarships to civil and environmental engineering students within the East Central Branch. Environmental Engineers, Water Resources Engineers, and Environmental Professionals form the local EWRI membership base. We invite you to check out our upcoming events shown on the page below and would love to see you participate!

Student Scholarship Program

The Environmental and Water Resource Institute (EWRI) of Central Florida is dedicated to supporting local ASCE Student Chapters by providing scholarships and sponsoring students to attend the Southeast Student Symposium. Each year proceeds from the EWRI one-day seminar are used to provide scholarships to civil and environmental engineering students from the University of Central Florida, Embry Riddle Aeronautical University, and the Orlando campus of Polytechnic University of Puerto Rico.

EWRI annually awards thousands in scholarships to both undergraduate and graduate engineering students. Selection is based on academic performance, involvement in ASCE student activities, and a demonstrated commitment to water resources and the environment.

In 2024, $2,000 scholarships were awarded to three students from UCF and two from Embry Riddle. For 2025, EWRI will continue its support by awarding $2,000 scholarships to the top four applicants.

Scholarship applications are posted on this website at the beginning of each year with scholarships awarded during the annual seminar in May. The 2025 EWRI Scholarship application is now open! Interested applicants can find the form at the link below.

Applications closed on April 7th, 2025. Scholarship winners will be announced soon.
