About the event
In the SFWMD, applications for an individual ERP (Construction & Operation or Conceptual Approval) are assigned three (3) reviewers; one from Natural Resource Management (Environmental), one from Property, and one from Engineering. This presentation will focus on the Engineering review, the criteria that must be followed and design techniques to be employed, with specific focus on the criteria relevant to the primary Counties served by the District’s Orlando Service Center; Orange, Osceola, and Polk Counties. Items to be discussed include the following: developing appropriate project information regarding existing drainage patterns, soils, land use, and tailwater; calculating water quality requirements; storm routings; floodplain impacts and compensation; and nutrient loading calculations.
Speaker:
Patty Therrien, PE, CFM, has over 25 years of experience in drainage and stormwater management system design, environmental permitting, and hydraulic analyses for transportation related project across Florida. She joined the South Florida Water Management District’s Orlando Regulatory Division in 2021 and is a Lead Engineer responsible for reviewing Environmental Resource Permit Applications throughout the District. Ms. Therrien holds Bachelor of Science Degrees in Mechanical Engineering and Civil Engineering from the University of Central Florida, is a Certified Floodplain Manager and licensed Professional Engineer in Florida.
Ms. Therrien has been an active member of the East Central Florida Chapter of the Environmental Water Resource Institute for over 23 years. Her involvement began when it was the Water Resources Technical Group. In that time period, she has served as Chapter Chair (twice), Vice-Chair, PDH Chair, Seminar Chair, and Luncheon Chair.
